Lisle, Naperville cops warn of fake IRS calls

Lisle and Naperville police are warning residents about scam artists who are placing telephone calls purporting to be from the Internal Revenue Service and demanding taxes and penalties be paid.

Police say the IRS will not call requesting Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, credit/debit card numbers, or any other account number that would identify you. The IRS also will not contact you by telephone asking to send them money. The IRS communicates in writing through the postal service.

Anyone contacted by someone attempting this scam should hang up immediately, police said. Residents should not offer to pay anything or reveal any personal information.

For more information regarding the IRS scam, as well as several others, visit the Village of Lisle website at www.villageoflisle.org. The "scams" link is in the police department's crime prevention section.
